Simple Tips to Coordinate Your Flower Girls' Dresses Selecting the color for the Flower Girls is an issue many brides stress over needlessly. Coordinating your Flower Girls can be very simple if you keep two basic things in mind:
So where do you go from here? The sky's the limit! The most popular choice is a white or ivory dress for the Flower Girls to coordinate with the color of the Bride's gown. Color can then be added to coordinate with the rest of the wedding party. Added in small amounts, an exact match is not nearly as critical. What are some of the ways? Add a nosegay of flowers at the waistline front and back. Flowers are just gorgeous centered in a lovely bow in back! Your florist should be able to put these together on a safety clasp with no trouble. The most popular approach is a colored sash at the waist. Many wonderful dresses are available with sashes in your choice from many colors. If you want a perfect match, order about 3 yds. of fabric at the same time your Bride's Maids dresses are ordered; it must come from the same dye lot to match. Have a dressmaker whip up some sashes for the girls and voila! If it's too late to order fabric, you can check with many fabric shops for very wide double-faced satin ribbon. It comes in lots of colors. About 3 yds. should be plenty for a girl of just about any age. Keep in mind that changing sashes changes the look of the dress so Mom may love you for putting her daughter in a dress she can wear over and over again! Another choice is selecting Flower Girl dresses with a skirt filled with flower petals. Many come in a wide variety of petal color choices. If your perfect color isn't available, don't despair -- those petals have to come out of the dress to have it cleaned. This means they are easily removeable so you can exchange them with petals from your florist. Many craft stores now have a Wedding Department and carry nice silk petals too. For variety, you could mix colors, and a little greenery for accent adds depth and interest. The petals don't have to be a perfect match; consider the fabric as a slight "buffer zone" that will temper colors just a little bit. Petals could match your Bride's Maids or your flowers. A very popular choice is to select Flower Girl dresses in the colors of the flowers. Very offen the flowers are a 3rd color in the bridal party and dressing the little ones in this accent color can be exquisitely effective! A variation of a color is lovely such as light blue Flower Girl dresses with navy blue Bride's Maids or pink Flower Girl dresses with Burgundy Bride's Maids. The reverse can work too, of course. And finally, if a perfect match is all you can live with, then you must either order the Flower Girl dresses from the same manufacturer as the Bride's Maids gowns cut from the same dye lot -- or -- order plenty of fabric from the same dye lot and have them custom made.
